I.  Introduction

            On May 1st, 2006 a large protest called El Gran Paro Americano, or The Great American Strike as translated into English, took place in America.  Businesses and schools alike were affected as many illegal aliens poured into the streets to protest for amnesty for all illegal aliens.  Traditionally May 1st is an international labor holiday;  consequently, various illegal alien groups formed together to produce a large protest to show their anger with America.  To add to the frustration, protestors waved flags of their own countries and images of socialist leader, Che Guevara.  As Americans as a whole turned on their televisions to see protest, naturally they questioned why the government has so long ignored the issue of illegal immigration.  Despite strong public concern over the issue of illegal immigration, it is rarely brought to light by politicians.  It is only logical to wonder why the United States government continues to ignore this issue, and why everyone on both sides of the debate are so fired up.

        1.  The Political Game of Illegal Immigration

            El Gran Paro Americano really was just a protest of house bill HR-4437 which passed the House, but was cut short at the Senate level.  If it had passed, the bill would make anyone living in America illegally be committing a felony.  The bill would also bring down strong penalties for those who knowingly employed illegal aliens.1  Even though the bill never passed, it got the attention of both the American people and illegal aliens alike all over America.  In Washington, Republicans are split over the debate of illegal immigration while Democrats generally avoid the issue all together.  Recently politicians in some parts of America have been
