A Christian Speaks on the Faith and Path of Wicca

I am a Christian and not a Wiccan. A Christian is one who has been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who has made a personal,free-will decision to commit himself and all his or her life to our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Both of these things are true of me. I am a Greek Orthodox Christian, a member of St. Mary's Eastern Orthodox Church, Calhan, Colorado. In this paper, I am not speaking as agent for any church, but I am, entirely on my own responsibility, speaking the truth in love, as we Christians are supposed to do.
A Situation of Strife and Shame: There are many Christians today who believe that anyone who is not a Christian is doomed to an eternity of suffering in hell. Any decent person, believing this, would be compelled to try to save as many people from this fate as possible. But is this belief correct?
Jesus Christ, having noted the faith and righteousness of a Roman centurion, a Pagan, proclaimed: "Assuredly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sitdown with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."(Matthew 8:10-12)
If we accept these words as true, and surely we should, then it is clear that heaven will contain many who are not Christians, and hell will contain many who are! Clearly, throughout the Gospels, Jesus Christ sets forth the criteria for entrance into the kingdom of heaven, and those criteria include love, kindness,forgiveness, and a refusal to judge others:
"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)
"For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you." (Matthew 7:2)
"But go and learn what this means: `I desire mercy and not sacrifice.'" (Matthew 9:13)
"Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." (Luke 6:36-38)
Is it not clear? Anyone who fails in these things, will calling himself a Christian save him? Anyone who obeys God in these things, will being unbaptized condemn him? Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me,`Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
In addition to these words from the Gospel, let us look at the words of Micah the Prophet, centuries earlier, who wrote: He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?(Micah 6:6-8)
Where, in any of this, does it say what doctrines one is to believe, or whose teachings concerning reality one must accept? All these things speak on how one ACTS, how one lives one's life, the kind of person one's actions gradually bring into being. Yet it is not by good works that we earn our way into heaven, because there is no way we can earn the free gift of God's mercy and grace, which alone can save us. But it is clear that it is not by faith, in the sense of sharing the Christian faith, that we are saved,either. The faith which saves us is not faith in the goodness of our works, nor faith that we have the right theology and/or belong to the right church. Rather, it is faith in God, and in His mercy: "So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has Mercy." (Romans 9:16)
But the Wiccans, you will say, do not have faith in God. Yet by their own theology, they certainly do. Those who call them Satan-worshippers are entirely wrong. They do not worship Satan, or even believe that Satan exists. Instead, they worship a Goddess and a God whom they understand as manifestations of a higher and unknown Deity. Now if you are a Christian, this will sound familiar to you, and it should. In the Bible we find the following: "Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, `Men of Athens,I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you." Acts 17:22-23)
The Wiccans worship the Unknown God, as manifested to them in the form of a Goddess and a God. Therefore, our Bible tells us they worship the same God we do; and if they do not know this, we should know it!
For those of us who are unable to simply stand on God's Word, and must prove to themselves the truth of what it proclaims the holy Apostle John has given us the method for doing this. You have only to attend any public Wiccan ceremony, and test the spirits which are there, to see "whether they are of God" (1 John 4:1).
You will find that, while you may perceive the power manifested there as less than what you have experienced as a Christian, that power is clearly the power of God.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, these people of Wicca have been terribly slandered by us. They have lost jobs, and homes, and places of business because we have assured others that they worship Satan, which they do not. We have persecuted them, and God will hold us accountable for this, you may be sure, for He has said, "Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." (Matthew 25:40)
Let us, from this point onward, repent of our misdeeds and declare that henceforth we shall obey Christ our God, and not judge others or condemn them, so that He will not have to judge and condemn us for our sins.
I felt this was a very valuable addition to our page. I occassionally get email from Christians trying to 'save my soul', 'show me the light', and some even 'damning' me to spend eternity in 'hell with my leader Satan'. Since withces don't believe in Satan, and one must be Christian to have a belief in him, that one is laughable at best. But, to find a Christian who is willing to be openminded and accepting of others ways is an inspiration. So may it be in the world.

Hello Pastor, I just read your page about how masterbation should be
outlawed. I have to say it was very amusing especially the solution parts
about selling cucumbers presliced so women would not be tempted. I agree
with the fact there is far too much pornography in this country and the way
sex is packaged is what makes you feel that it's wrong. If people didn't
release that steam once in awhile then who knows what would happen. They
would rape more women, commit crime etc. I know your answer to this is to

on this planet. About "ideology" I have expressed my suspicions
elsewhere; here I will only mention John Adams's verdict that
shortening "ideology" to "idiocy" would save some space and add a

As for "morality" -- or "moralic acid" as Nietzsche called it -- I
consider it the major cause of almost all the major atrocities not

violent that they could never bring themselves to do them for selfish
reasons. What the sociopath and sadist do for fun, the "moralist"

war, and glorified some of them. "Morality" constantly plots to

My response to this would be, do you really intend for us ALL to learn old
Hebrew so that we can understand God's word in it's TRUE form? From your
comment, it would appear obvious that you are implying this, because the
bible i.e. God's word has been reformed and changed, fundamentally, by it's
translation into english. It has also been changed by religious figureheads
along the years e.g. the removal of the book of enoch, the King James
version etc...
My point is, that your point makes the assumption that God speaks English.
He spoke HIS word in Hebrew, so it appears, so...you may want to book some
classes.

Now on to your expose on the "REAL Number One Public Health Problem in
America today"

I will take each point as it is made on your website with FULL quotation so
there can be no claim of 'wrong-context".

You say:

I say:
In dealing with the next point also, I point out that lung cancer, and

apply to masturbation. If this was true, then people would be advised not to

ejaculation inclusive.

Reality: Christianity proves that chronic Masturbation causes weakness,
depression, forgetfulness and nearsightedness.
I say: I masturbate regularly (3-4 times a week) and have done for the past
three years, I do not suffer from depression, weakness, forgetfulness OR
nearsightedness. You would think with having masturbated approx. 416 times
in the past three years that I would require glasses if this claim were
true, yet I've never worn glasses in my life. At this point in time I have
20-20 vision. Also if these claims were true, then Sex would cause the same
symptoms. It doesn't, does it? No one claims nearsightedness from too much
sex, do they? Because as I said before, masturbation is sex without vaginal
stimulus, ejaculation inclusive.

You say:
Myth: There are bigger problems than Masturbation, like drugs and AIDS.
Reality: Experts estimate that there are at least 150,000 Americans
masturbating RIGHT NOW! Masturbation costs American businesses at least
$3.14 billion in lost productivity every month!
I say:
Drugs and AIDS ARE bigger problems. Thousands of Africans don't die each day
masturbating, do they? No, they die from AIDS.
Now, you claim American businesses lose $3.14 billion in lost productivity
every month due to people masturbating? How do you intend to prove this
claim? Presumably these people who are masturbating, are doing so while NOT
at work. Granted a small percentage may BE at work and masturbating, but
this small percentage could not account for $3.14billion each month. How can
a business lose productivity from the actions of one of their workers on
that person's OWN time, with NO direct consequence to the business itself?

You say:
Myth: Masturbation is not immoral.
Reality: Read your Bible. God was so offended when Onan spilled his seed
upon the ground that God struck Onan dead! It is true that Onan wasn't
Masturbating, but the point is that God hates it when men waste sperm, no
matter what the reason.
I say:
Let us apply the logic of "God hates men wasting sperm, no matter what the
reason" to other situations.
Approx. 3million sperm are produced in the testes each day. If they go
unused, they die within 3 days. In a period of a week, a sexually inactive
man will WASTE approx. 21million sperm. WASTE is the important word. He is
WASTING them because they are not actively be being used in the pursuit of
reproduction. Therefore to not offend God, who 'hates men wasting sperm',
every man should attempt reproduction almost every day so that these sperm
are not WASTED. Care to comment?

You say:
Myth: Masturbation is a "Victimless Crime."
Reality: Theological experts on Masturbation have come to the conclusion
that Masturbation is what is known as a "gateway" sin. This means that
Masturbation leads to more serious offenses. In fact, practically all
rapists, Sodomites, child molesters and pornography addicts started out as
Masturbators.
I say:
A huge proportion of men in the world masturbate. This would no doubt
include rapists, sodomites, child molesters and pornography addicts. Also
your comment does not disprove the myth mentioned above. It merely points
out situations where it may not be true. I would go as far as to say that
the claim is not true, and a false premise, based on the logical idea that
masturbation is not illegal and therefore not a CRIME. But this would be
nit-picking. I will, however, go as far as to say, that people who
masturbate are a lot further in touch with their sexuality and RESEARCH (not
theological experts) has shown that people who have a repressed sexuality
i.e. do not masturbate, have a higher tendency towards behaviour such as
rape, sodomy, child molestation and pornography addiction. Here, I must
however point out that pornography addiction is not an OFFENCE in and of
itself, just like cocaine addiction is not a crime in and of itself. It's
not illegal to be addicted to something.

You say:
Myth: Americans value their "Freedom" and will never stand for Masturbation
being outlawed.
Reality: Oral and anal sex are already illegal in several States, and people
like it that way! Masturbatory devices are already illegal in Texas, and the
Police in San Antonio and Austin have aggressively enforced this law, even
going as far as to torture clerks that worked in stores that sold
indecently-shaped soap and candles, and there has been no public outcry.
I say:
I'm shocked to hear that people are so eager to repress their sexuality that
they will allow oral and anal sex to be made illegal. I would pull you on
this point, however. How many people like it that way? I am sure if you ask
any free-thinking people they would be outraged about this. Also, I would
refer to my earlier point that RESEARCH has shown that people with a
repressed sexuality are more prone to illegal, deviant sexual behaviour.
Making a sexual expression like oral or anal sex illegal, would more than be
eligible for the title of "Sexually Repressive" and this will therefore
increase the possibility of people becoming rapist, molestors and sodomites.
If people knew this I doubt they would like it that way?

You say:
Myth: But everyone's doing it!
Reality: Surveys have repeatedly shown that up to 5% of Americans don't
Masturbate.
I say:

guidance from God as to how you should redeem yourself, as some of the
things you have suggested, must surely been seen as sin in the eyes of God.

You know there's this passage in the bible about loving your neighbor as
yourself. If you claim to take the bible as literally as you say, it's

the chance to meet Jesus here on earth, I can say from the accounts of him

circle of followers. In fact he accepted the lowest and despised of the

Three of my children follow every word of the Lord, but one

I found the Bible to be a very difficult read. All of those hard to pronounce names and archaic pronouns just drove me crazy. When I had to start looking up words like "emerod" I gave up. Having spent many long nights in hotels, I would sometimes pull out the trusty Gideon and give it a go. However, I just couldn't get into it like with a really good novel or a book of essays by Gore Vidal. I know the basic story line but I'm certainly not an expert like yourself. Could you please answer a serious question for me? Did everyone who died before Jesus came to earth go to hell? Can you also explain why or why not?

No, not all went to Hell. Before Jesus people had to atone for their sins with animal sacrifices.

I have two things. One is a question and the other is to point out something. In your Kidz section you said that when the stone hits Goliath that it defys physics. Now i'd have to disagree with that. I recently came across your site as I was building a timeline to help sort
out the Karl Rove fiasco. Unfortunately I felt a compulsion to let you know
a few things.

You aren't a Christian, there has never been a proper Christian, and your
declaring Karl Rove an emporer of whatever is simply stupid.

The bible you read was adapted over the ages and, due largely to a fire, is
an unfinished translation of the Aramaic texts. As I'm sure you are aware
Christ spoke Aramaic and many historians regard the KJV of the Holy Bible to
be rather less than clean. Be that as it may, this is a tangent I'll leave
up to you to follow up on as I am short on time with much to do. But I do
have one more thing to point out.

The prophecies of the bible indicate that the church itself will have become
part of the beast you were supposed to be fighting, that men would come in
the name of your god and do great harm in its name. Does it not occur to you
that people like Karl Rove commit acts that a holy god would find
distasteful? Does it occur to you that in the end it is those who become
enraged by the unjust behavior of the ruling class? Has is it ever entered
your mind that if a Christ were to return, that he would probably return as
the bottom rung of a ladder because that's where struggle has brought the
strongest bonds of love?

I often thought that because I believed in no god that I would be punished,
although not a big deal I do take some pride in knowing people like you
would be judged far harsher than I for being heretics.
